Friday Bowl-Appalooza: Does Gus’s Buyout Drop If He Loses To Purdue?

We’re in the thick of college football bowl season now folks.

We’ll have some previewish stuff on the Sugar Bowl in a bit, but first could I interest you in a moderately competitive Music City Bowl between Auburn and Purdue (1:30 pm, ESPN)?

Jarrett Stidham is leaving, Gus has about as much goodwill in greater Opelika as the game warden and Uncle Skeeter’s parole officer. Purdue comes in at 6-6 following a thrilling victory to close the regular season against....Indiana.

I think Auburn is the better team here, but we all know the last thing one should expect to see in an Auburn bowl game is Auburn actually playing football. They’re singularly responsible for the whole Central Florida debacle and I’ll never forgive them for it.

Once you put that one in the rear view be sure to keep it on the Worldwide Leader for the 5:15 pm start of the Camping World Bowl between #20 Syracuse and #16 West Virginia. Mountaineer QB Will Grier has also cleaned out his locker in Morgantown, but I expect Holgo the Barbarian has found a serviceable way to put up 30+ points, even on a Syracuse defense best labeled “not remotely as terrible as you think.” That defense will however be playing without two starting defensive linemen, DE Alton Robinson and DT McKinley Williams, each of whom suffered the dreaded “personal reasons.”

Just once I want to find out “personal reasons” means “won the powerball and is now deejaying in Ibiza.” But no matter the reason I like the Mountaineers to burn down the Orangemen.

Until later...

Go ‘Dawgs!!!
