Thursday Morning ‘Dawg Bites Won’t Turn Around

NCAA Football: SEC Football Media Day
Der Kommissar’s in town.
Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome to Thursday, Bulldog Fans! News is fairly scarce around these parts, especially until the college bowl season begins.

A little something did rear it’s ugly head recently. It seems to be around possible playoff expansion for the existing CFP system. Though if you only interview B1G administrative-type folks, you’re bound to hear less than a thorough and objective vetting of the issue. Even with the crazy pro-expansion/anti-expansion platforms, let’s face it... the idea is going nowhere without the one voice that will sway everything. And everyone knows who that one person is: SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. So Greg... alles klar, Herr Kommissar?

Now onto news and notes of the Bulldog variety:

The Sugar Bowl game may be 3 weeks away, but they have joined the news cycle by announcing the 2nd Sugar Bowl Hall of Fame inductees. Included in the 10 honorees are former Bulldog player Scott Woerner, and former Auburn player Bulldog coach Vince Dooley. Both instrumental in the 1981 Sugar Bowl victory by Georgia, I refuse to recognize that a Sugar Bowl was held in 1982 or 1983.

Speaking of the game, at least one AP writer likes the Bulldogs’ chances. If you want to see what is thought of the other 79 bowl games, be my guest.

What do the locals think of the matchup against the heavily favored Bulldogs? Cautiously optimistic.

And how will they do it? With 2019 Heisman hopeful gunslinger Sam Ehlinger. You’ll never guess who else might win the Heisman.

Continuing his hardware collection, Georgia cornerback Deandre Baker was named to the American Football Writers Association All-America First Team.

Right on the heels, Baker also gets tabbed by the Sporting News for it’s All-America First Team.

With those accolades, many expect Baker to be drafted on the first day by the NFL. A mock draft is now out, and it shows DGD Deandre going #16 to the Eagles. Oh, that should have been a spoiler alert. But it’s a veiled AJC link, so you probably don’t mind.

Feel free to post your own news gleanings in the comments below. And as always...

GO ‘DAWGS!!!
