NFL Dawgs Update

In the midst of the buildup to Saturday’s epic clash in Atlanta, there’ll also be a crop of players who will, like many, taking great interest in their former teammates, hoping that they can accomplish what many of them did not in Athens - defeat the Crimson Tide.

Georgia’s impact on the NFL continues. Consider this - barring injuries, Georgia would have two former players up for NFL Rookie of the Year honors and another in line for Offensive MVP.

In Cleveland, the Browns continue to be a team on the rise thanks to Nick Chubb. In a win over the Bengals, he had 28 carries for 84 yards and a touchdown to go with three catches for 44 yards and a TD.

Yes - there was kind of spectacular catch....

In a losing effort for the Bengals, Shawn Williams had seven tackles with Geno Atkins having a single tackle as well as a special teams tackle for Orson Charles. Clint Boling started at left guard for Cincy.

The Patriots topped the Jets 27-13 with David Andrews at center and Sony MIchel carrying the ball 21 times for 133 yards and a touchdown. Jordan Jenkins registered three tackles for the Jets.

In a 23-16 Bears win against the Lions, Roquan Smith led Chicago with 11 tackles and a sack as Leonard Floyd had a pair of tackles to chip in. In the loss, Matthew Stafford passed for 236 yards, completing 28-of-38 passes.

It was hardly fun for Falcons fans to watch, but the solace from Thursday night’s 31-17 loss to the Saints was Ben Watson’s 20-yard catch.

The Eagles rallied to beat the Giants 25-22, who were led by Alec Ogletree’s four tackles and sack and a pair of Lorenzo Carter tackles.

In Buffalo, Isaiah McKenzie got his first NFL touchdown in a 24-21 Bills win over Jacksonville - he had two rushes for eight yards, two catches for 11 yards, three punt returns for 13 yards and two kick returns for 43 yards. Abry Jones registered four tackles for Jacksonville.

The Panthers lost 30-27 to Seattle despite seven tackles by Thomas Davis.

Corey Moore had a tackle for the Colts, who beat the Dolphins 27-24 - a loss that was in spite of eight Reshad Jones tackles.

The Titans, with Ben Jones at center, lost 34-17 to Houston.
