‘Dawgs look to bounce back against Sam Houston State

NCAA Basketball: SEC Basketball Tipoff Vasha Hunt-USA TODAY Sports

Tom Crean’s team returns to action tonight in the first round of the Cayman Islands Classic in....Athens?

That’s right, the Red and Black will face the Sam Houston State Bearkats at 7:00 in Stegeman Coliseum, looking to bounce back from a tough 81-77 loss to the Temple Owls.

So far the Hoop Hounds have scored 110 points against Savannah State, their highest point total in almost 20 years, and the above solid output against a good Temple squad. It’s no stretch to expect they will also be looking to score copiously against the Bearkats.

Five UGA players are averaging double figures so far, led by former Bainbridge Bearcat (synergy!) Tyree Crump, who’s gone for an average of 15 points a game so far. I’ll also be curious to see what kind of minutes Coach Crean gets from 6’11 sophomore Nic Claxton, who was a rebounding machine against Savannah State in the opener.

Tonight’s game is available as usual on the Bulldog Radio Network and for viewing by lucky subscribers to SEC Network+.

The ‘Dawgs (1-1) will actually travel down to the Cayman Islands tomorrow and play Illinois State on Monday to continue tournament play. Until later...

Go ‘Dawgs!!!
