Cocktail Thursday: UMass Edition

old fashioned

If you’re looking for something to wash down a cupcake during the SEC’s communal week off, you could probably use a drink. I can help with that.

It’s sort of ironic that on the heels of this week’s big out-of-conference scheduling announcement that the Red and Black are playing a 4-7 UMass squad coming off a 35-16 home loss to BYU. The Minutemen are an FBS Independent, though they’ve never actually partaken in the “bowl” portion of the Bowl Subdivision.

The line on this game is Georgia minus 41 points, which almost sounds outrageous, but doesn’t quite. No one will remember whether the ‘Dawgs win this one by 36 or 46 except the gamblers.

That doesn’t mean there’s nothing to look forward to. We should see Justin Fields in extended action, and probably more of James Cook as an every down back than we have since the first quarter of the season. A host of young defensive players who’ve had spot duty this season (Channing Tindall, Brenton Cox, Mark Webb) are likely to see extended action in a preview of the future.

What I’m saying is....there’s nothing wrong with a cupcake now and again. And what’s the drink to help you enjoy this weekend’s confectionary contest?

A lemon cupcake.

Mix one ounce of whipped cream vodka and one and a half ounces of limoncello over ice, shake, then strain into a glass. Top with four ounces of club soda and enjoy. Until later...

Go ‘Dawgs!!!
