First Half Open Thread: It’s a ‘Dawg Beat ‘Dawg World.

It’s once again time for SEC football between the hedges. Georgia and Mississippi State will get it going on ESPN in about 45 minutes, in a game that will help determine the SEC fate of both squads. Winning this one won’t be easy, but the path to victory is pretty simple. Defensively, Georgia needs to avoid giving up big plays in the rushing game, get multiple players to the ball, and force Nick Fitzgerald to make uncharacteristic mistakes.

Offensively, Georgia is going to have to rely on Jake Fromm to make some plays, but not mistakes. Todd Grantham is not going to let Nick Chubb and Sony Michel win this football game by themselves. I look for Javon Wims to see some opportunities in man coverage behind a blitzing Mississippi State front seven. If Jim Chaney goes to the air early, be patient. It may be the best thing the Bizarro Bulldogs offer him.

But Georgia is going to have to run the ball before all is said and done, both to gain yardage and to keep the defense off the field a little. How well they do against a stout Maroon front could be the story of the game. Now....
