One of Georgia’s top offensive weapons for 2017 is among the contenders for the premier award at his position.
Isaac Nauta was announced today as one of 54 players on the preseason watch list for the John Mackey Award, presented at season’s end to the nation’s top tight end. During his freshman campaign Nauta emerged as one of the top targets for his roommate Jacob Eason, snagging 29 passes for 361 yards and 3 touchdowns.
The ‘Dawgs will face four other watch list members this season, including a pair of Notre Dame players (Alize Mack and Durham Smythe). Personally, I think Jeb Blazevich should have been on the list, giving Georgia a pair of nominees as well, but the drop off in production from his freshman year to his junior season may have hpered that.
Interestingly, despite a sterling legacy of elite tight ends, UGA has never produced a Mackey winner. That could be because jet ski receptions aren’t a part of the decision process. Until later...
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
