Georgia’s first ever regular season matchup with Notre Dame will kick off under the lights in primetime.
Notre Dame has announced the start times for its 2017 home schedule, and the Fighting Irish’s September 9th showdown with the Bulldogs is set for a 7:30 start in South Bend. Like all Notre Dame home games, it will be carried live on NBC. Georgia will open the season on September 2nd in Athens against Appalachian State while Notre Dame will begin the follow up to their spectacular 4-8 2016 against Temple.
The game is the front end of an intersectional home-and-home which sees Notre Dame scheduled to trip to Athens for a game on September 21, 2019. You may recall that Georgia’s only prior football contest against the Fighting Irish was the 1981 Sugar Bowl. It was kind of a big deal.
The Notre Dame series is the crown jewel of Georgia’s upcoming nonconference slate. 2018 sees the Dawgs’ annual clash with Georgia Tech augmented by a murderer’s row of Middle Tennessee State, UMass, and Murray State. We know that the week before Georgia takes on Notre Dame in Athens they will host Arkansas State. And 2020 includes a contract to play Virginia in a Chick-Fil-A Classic matchup and a home game against East Tennessee State on a yet to be determined date. So savor this one. Until later . . .
