Georgia draws a familiar foe to open NIT play

NCAA Basketball: SEC Tournament-Kentucky vs Georgia Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Georgia will play in the postseason NIT this year, just like in 2016. And the Dawgs will begin play against the Belmont Bruins, just like in 2016.

Mark Fox’s squad (19-14) nabbed a #2 seed and will face the seventh seeded Bruins at 7:00 pm Wednesday at Stegeman Coliseum. Belmont finished the season 22-6 coming out of the Ohio Valley Conference. Belmont entered their conference tournament as the top seed but went down in a semifinal upset to Jacksonville State. The Bruins faced two SEC opponents this season, losing both games: 80-66 to Vanderbilt and 78-61 to Florida.

If the Bulldogs win Wednesday they’d earn a matchup with the winner of Georgia Tech and Indiana, also in the Stege.
