Speed is not just an upper, it’s also a corner. Ameer Speed has just sent in his Letter of Intent to Butts-Mehre, and has committed to play for the Georgia Bulldogs starting this fall.
Speed is a 6’3” 195 pounder out of Sandalwood High School in Jacksonville. Speed had offers from regional ACC schools Virginia Tech and UNC-CH, but also received offers from as far away as Michigan State and Oregon.
Obviously he has tremendous size, and is exactly what Kirby Smart has wanted in his defensive backfield: big, rangy guys who can cover, ball hawk, and play big against the run. A taller, longer version of Aaron Davis, and in the same vein as current Bama players (and Smart recruits) Hootie Johnson, Bo Grant, and Nate Staskelunas. According to reports, he wants to play corner, all the recruiting was for him to play corner, so I’m guessing he will play corner in Sanford Stadium.
ESPN gives him 4 stars, Rivals gives him 3 stars, and Virginia Tech gives him all the stars. At press time, the Hokies did not have any commitments from defensive backs, so Speed was big on their list. Through December, most experts pointed him to Blacksburg, but the recent visit to Athens seemed to cement the deal with his fellow #Savages.
Welcome Ameer, glad to have you as a Georgia Bulldog. More to come, and as always...
GO ‘DAWGS!!!
