Georgia looks to keep it going against Winthrop

Bulldogs looking for third straight win.

NCAA Basketball: Georgia at Tennessee Randy Sartin-USA TODAY Sports

Coming off of a successful showing in the Wooden Legacy Tournament and a big road win at Marquette, Georgia returns to Stegeman Coliseum Tuesday night to take on the high scoring Winthrop Eagles.

The Bulldogs are 6-1 with their lone loss coming to San Diego State in the Wooden Legacy. They bounced back from that loss with a win over a ranked Saint Mary’s team and then scored another impressive road victory at Marquette this past Saturday.

The Bulldogs used a balanced offensive attack against the Golden Eagles including freshman Rayshaun Hammonds and Teshaun Hightower who both converted some clutch free throws down the stretch. Yante Maten remains the focal point at both ends of the floor and Turtle Jackson has shown growth at the point guard, but this team is shaping up to be much more balanced than we have seen in the past.

Winthrop enters Tuesday’s game 5-3 but with a high-powered offense that is sure to have Mark Fox’s attention. The Eagles are averaging 90.4 points per game and have topped the 100 point mark three different times. They are led by 6-8 do-everything guard Xavier Cooks who leads the team in scoring (15.4) rebounding (9.9) and assists (4.1).

Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and will be televised on the SEC Network.
