It was a pleasant surprise for many Bulldog fans last week when Mark Fox followed Kirby Smart’s lead by signing five star point guard Ashton Hagans. The Hoop Hounds don’t sign a national top fifty recruit in every cycle, after all. "Wonder when we’ll grab another basketball commit that big?" UGA fans likely asked themselves half-jokingly.
The answer? Six days. That’s because this afternoon Coach Fox secured a pledge from the #3 player in the Peach State for 2019, Shiloh forward Elias King. King chose the ‘Dawgs over offers from schools coast-to-coast, including Memphis, Miami, USC, Clemson, NC State, and Georgia Tech.
At 6’7 and 180 pounds King brings a great combination of length on defense and smooth offensive ball handling. He’s developed a solid jump shot and is quick enough to create off the dribble.
What does King’s commitment mean in the grand scheme of things? Let me show you the current 247Sports basketball recruiting rankings for 2019.
Do not adjust your screen. Yes, Georgia now has the top recruiting class in the nation for 2019 in both football and basketball. I can’t explain it. But I am enjoying it. Every ‘Dawg does indeed have its day.
