Clutch free throw shooting combined with an excellent defensive performance led Georgia to a 73-66 road win over Marquette.
Maquette’s talented backcourt provided a stiff challenge defensively for the Bulldogs but Georgia was able to hold their own limiting the Golden Eagles to 36 percent shooting for the game. Marquette was able to stay close thanks to 11 made three-pointers but needed 33 attempts to get there.
The Bulldogs controlled the paint and were 21-of-30 from the free throw line for the game including a perfect 6-for-6 over the final 39 seconds to seal the win.
Yante Maten led a balanced attack with 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists. William Jackson added 11 points and seven assists including 5-of-6 shooting at the free throw line. Tyree Crump came off the bench to hit three three-point buckets and finished with nine. Derek Ogbeide Rayshaun Hammonds and Juwan Parker all had eight each.
Markus Howard led Marquette with a game-high 29 points while Andrew Rowsey added 15.
