Georgia wraps up play at the Wooden Legacy Tournament with a consolation matchup against St. Mary’s. The Bulldogs opened the tournament with a victory over host Cal State Fullerton but fell in the semi finals against San Diego State. St. Mary’s defeated Harvard in the first round but was upset in the second round by Washington State.
The Bulldogs went back and forth against the Aztecs before a late 7-0 run ended their chances. Neither team played on Saturday which could be big for Georgia given that several players were reportedly dealing with food poisoning on Friday. Reserve big man Mike Edwards didn’t play at all and reports indicated that several others were dealing with the effects.
Yante Maten and Turtle Jackson led the Bulldogs with 17 points each but the Bulldogs shot just 38 percent from the field while the Aztecs dominated the paint.
Emmett Naar led the Gaels with 17 points in the loss to Washington State. Jordan Ford added 15 while Jock Landale had 14.
Sunday’s matchup will be the second meeting all-time between the two teams with the last coming in the 2016 NIT. St. Mary’s won that game 77-65 behind 15 points and 11 assists by Naar.
