Jeff Sagarin’s ratings

A long-running computer rating of FBS and FCS teams, all in one list, usually out very early Sunday morning.

  1. Alabama
  2. Ohio State
  3. Penn State
  4. Georgia (Computers often do stuff humans wouldn’t agree with. This just means the Sagarin formula would favor those three teams over UGA on a neutral field, not that UGA’s undefeated resume is inferior. Human rankings will favor the Dawgs, and other computers might as well.)
  5. Notre Dame
  6. Clemson
  7. Washington
  8. Auburn
  9. Oklahoma
  10. Oklahoma State

Georgia Overview

Georgia took out years of frustration against Florida on Saturday, stomping the Gators 42-7 in the most lopsided Cocktail Party victory in this writer’s life.

The run game was rolling and the defense was strong in a game that ultimately was Jim McElwain’s final one as coach of the Gators.

The number two ranked Dawgs now return home to face South Carolina this coming weekend.

Movers

Fell Out: #17 USF, #22 West Virginia

Newcomers: #21 Mississippi State, #23 Arizona

Overrated

#14 Iowa State

The Cyclones have two very impressive wins this year against Oklahoma and TCU and are somehow real challengers for the Big 12 title. However, I think they are a few spots too high in the latest rankings.

Underrated

South Florida

USF lost a heartbreaker to Houston to fall from ranks of the unbeatens, and the polls as well. They are likely to finish the year back in the rankings due to their talent and their remaining schedule.

This Week’s Top 25 Matchups

#7 Penn State at #24 Michigan State

#6 Clemson at #20 NC State

#18 Stanford at #25 Washington State

#8 Oklahoma at #11 Oklahoma State

#19 LSU at #1 Alabama

#13 Virginia Tech at #9 Miami

#23 Arizona at #17 USC

Upset Alert

Last week, I incorrectly predicted the demise of Oklahoma State.

This week, I’m taking NC State to knock off Clemson at home.
