Yante Maten named SEC Preseason Co-Player of the Year

Maten was one of three players to share preseason honor

Georgia senior forward Yante Maten and two other players were named preseason co-players of the year at SEC Basketball Media Day in Nashville. Maten will share the honor with Missouri freshman Michael Porter Jr. and Texas A&M sophomore Robert Williams.

Maten considered entering the NBA Draft at the end of last season before electing to return for his senior season. He averaged 18.2 points and 6.8 rebounds per game for the Bulldogs last season.

A significant knee sprain hampered his effectiveness at the end of last season. He is healthy again and Georgia will be looking for big things from Maten this season.

Maten was also named first team All-SEC along with Williams and Porter as well as Florida’s KeVaughn Allen and Kentucky’s Hamidou Diallo.
