It’ll be a great trivia question one day: What was the last sporting event Brent Musburger ever called in his career?
The answer, assuming he doesn’t decide to un-retire at some point, is a Georgia Bulldogs-Kentucky Wildcats basketball game on Jan. 31, 2017. Perhaps a little anticlimactic, but that’s how it goes with such an unexpected announcement.
Musburger is retiring from sports broadcasting at the age of 77. Rather than a Verne Lundquist-style season-long farewell tour, his last game will come less than a week after the announcement.
Next Tuesday, you will be looking live at Musburger’s last call, taking place at Rupp Arena when Georgia visits Kentucky. He’s been calling games a lot longer than I’ve been watching sports, and he will be missed.
