Mark Fox’s team is coming off one of its best recent efforts and returning to the scene of some of its worst recent losses when the Dawgs take on Florida today at noon in Gainesville. Coverage will be on ESPN2, WatchESPN, and the Bulldog Radio Network.
In its last outing Georgia throttled Ole Miss 69-47, and the Hoop Hounds are winners of three out of their last four. If you think that is impressive, remember that the Gators (13-3, 4-0 SEC) are winners of six in a row. Most recently the Sunshine State Saurians raced out to a lead on the road at Alabama, gave it back, then pulled away again for the 80-67 victory.
Despite some inconsistency on the offensive end (like we can judge about that) Florida looks like a challenging matchup for a couple of reasons. One, the Gators have at least four or five players capable of leading the team in scoring on any given day. Second, Florida is 19th in the country this season in forced turnovers. If you have watched this Georgia team I don't have to tell you why that's unsettling.
The win over Ole Miss helped Georgia crack the RPI top 40. A win in Gainesville would provide a strong conference road win to help offset that ugliness against Oakland earlier this year. A bad loss in the O’Connell Center would be a stain that couldn't be ignored in March. Let’s....let’s just hope it doesn’t come to that shall we?
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
