Georgia misses on five star safety Jacoby Stevens

Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

Kirby Smart and crew have had a pretty successful summer from a recruiting standpoint, but even they can't win 'em all. Georgia had hoped to secure a commitment today from five star safety Jacoby Stevens of Oakland High in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Stevens chose the LSU Tigers, and said after his announcement that he'd known the Bayou Bengals were the pick for him for some time now. That was probably a surprise to Georgia fans, given that he named the Bulldogs his leader back in April and had been seen wearing Bulldog gear over the past couple of weeks.

In the end it probably shouldn't be a huge shocker since Stevens actually spent much of his childhood in Louisiana, has family still in the Pelican State, and committed to the Tigers last fall before backing out when Les Miles' job security began to be in doubt.

Of course it's not exactly time for Bulldog fans to cry in their beers just yet. The Red and Black do have a commitment from Liberty County safety Richard LeCounte, the top safety in the nation according to 247Sports. Georgia is also battling it out for national top 100 recruits Deangelo Gibbs of Grayson and A.J. Terrell of Westlake, both of whom could play either corner or safety.
