Georgia Bulldogs No. 5 in Initial SEC Power Rankings

‘Dawgs rank in ‘tier 2’ just behind Tennessee.

SB Nation’s Bill Connelly has released his preseason SEC Power Rankings, giving the Georgia Bulldogs the No. 5 spot.

As we all know, it’s a season of change in Athens, with a new head coach and possibly a new starting quarterback. Here are Connelly’s full rankings:

  1. Alabama
  2. LSU
  3. Ole Miss
  4. Tennessee
  5. Georgia
  6. Arkansas
  7. Mississippi State
  8. Texas A&M
  9. Florida
  10. Auburn
  11. Missouri
  12. Vanderbilt
  13. Kentucky
  14. South Carolina

The rankings are further broken down into tiers. The top three get tier 1 status, meaning Connelly has the most trust in them to have a great season (“Alabama is Alabama, LSU is just about the most experienced team in the country, and Ole Miss might have the most raw explosiveness”).

Georgia is in tier 2, which starts at Tennessee and ends at Auburn. Missouri and Vanderbilt are tier 3, and poor Kentucky and South Carolina are tier 4.

The ‘Dawgs are the second-highest ranked team in the SEC East, and if the Vols are as good as advertised the Oct. 1 showdown in Sanford could be huge.
