Dominick Sanders on Bednarik Award watchlist

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

‘Tis the season for preseason watch lists, and today’s release includes a deserving Georgia Bulldog. Safety Dominick Sanders is on the watch list for the 2016 Chuck Bednarik Award. The Bednarik is presented to the top defender in all of college football (David Pollack was the 2004 winner).

After being a bit of an under-the-radar recruit Dominick Sanders has been a mainstay in his first two seasons in Athens, starting 25 of 26 games over that span, including all 13 games as a true freshman in 2014. In 2015 he led the team with 6 interceptions and his 205 interception return yards set a UGA single season record. In the process Sanders earned AP First Team All-SEC honors.  With 9 career interceptions, Sanders is only 4 away from tieing Scott Woerner, Jeff Sanchez, Ben Smith, and Coach Kirby Smart for fifth in the all-time UGA interception record book.

The Bednarik will be presented on December 8th.
