The Georgia Bulldog coaching staff saved their Fourth of July fireworks for the Fifth, securing the commitment of IMG Academy defensive end Robert Beal.
Beal, a Norcross native, had favored Georgia for some time over childhood favorite Notre Dame (from whom he decommitted in November) so the commitment itself wasn’t terribly surprising. Nevertheless it’s big news. The 6’3 ½, 230 pound defensive end/outside linebacker is rated the #8 player in the state of Florida by 247Sports and had been rated a top 10 player in Georgia as well before transferring to the Bradenton, Florida football training ground that produced 2016 signee Isaac Nauta. Overall Beal is ranked by 247 as the #20 player regardless of position in the country and holds nearly forty offers from the likes of Texas, Alabama, Notre Dame, FSU, LSU, Auburn, Oregon, and Florida.
Beal’s commitment is exactly the kind Bulldog fans have been wanting from Smart: a player rated four stars by some recruiting services and five stars with legitimate commitable offers from the nation’s best who cited the desire to stay home as part of his decision. Georgia now has thirteen commitments for 2017, eleven of whom hail from the Peach State.
