Georgia picks up big commitment from Texas tailback Toneil Carter

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Georgia added a big piece of the puzzle to its 2017 recruiting class this afternoon with the commitment of Houston, Texas tailback Toneil Carter. The 5'10, 198 pound speedster is ranked the #5 tailback in the class of 2017 and the #16 player in the state of Texas. Carter chose the Bulldogs over offers from such schools as Alabama, LSU, Texas, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, and Michigan.

Carter is one of the more versatile backs in this class, a back who runs with good vision, can handle traffic between the tackles, but has home run speed once he gets in the open. You can see more of what he brings to Athens in the highlights below:

Georgia may not be done at tailback, as the Bulldogs are still after big, bruising Mississippi tailback Cam Akers and may well be the favorite for Pennsylvania all-purpose back D'Andre Swift. Even without those guys Carter adds to this class a back capable of playing early. That was an important need for 2017 that can now be checked off the list.
