Four star offensive tackle D'Antne Demery commits to UGA

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Kirby Smart and Sam Pittman have both said that offensive line will be a focus in the 2017 Bulldog recruiting class. This afternoon they took another step toward addressing that position of need when Brunswick High offensive tackle D’Antne Demery committed to the Bulldogs over second choice Alabama.

The 6’6, 310 pound Demery also held offers from the likes of Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Michigan, and Tennessee and is rated a four star prospect by 247Sports. 247 also slots him in as the 13th best prospect in the state of Georgia and 16th best offensive tackle in the country.

Demery is a raw prospect whose stance and footwork are far from polished at this point. But while that footwork isn’t always efficient Demery’s feet are pretty quick for a big guy, and he has the body to become a bookend tackle at the next level. While I don’t see him as a day one starter ahead of promising players on campus now (unless he blossoms significantly over the next year), he is easily one of the top two offensive tackles in the state of Georgia along with Pace Academy’s Andrew Thomas. If Kirby Smart truly is going to lock down the borders, Demery is the type of player he needs to secure, a prospect who could sign anywhere but chooses to stay in his home state. You can see more of Demery as a junior in the highlights below. Until later . . .
