Last week when we discussed Georgia’s pursuit of transferring Ohio State center Daniel Giddens, I mentioned junior Osahen Iduwe as one of the young big men who could develop to take some of the minutes Giddens might have played. Yeah, about that. Not going to happen.
The University announced this afternoon that the 6’10, 245 pound Nigerian will be transferring. The big man was a latecomer to the game, not playing any basketball until he was fifteen years old. While he seems to have the physical tools, his game still has a long way to go and he never really cemented himself in the lineup in 2015. Iduwe averaged a meager 2.7 minutes of action per game in 18 appearances, and only 0.5 points per game. Iduwe’s minutes also seemed to drop late in the year as Yante Maten really emerged and Coach Fox seemed to settle on an inside rotation.
Iduwe’s transfer puts Georgia one below the scholarship limit. There’s always a chance Mark Fox will look to add a transfer player, especially if there’s a graduate transfer big man who could contribute immediately. I don’t know who that guy might be, though.
