It's been almost two years since a Georgia football player was arrested on a felony charge. That is, until early this morning. That's when freshmen Julian Rochester and Chad Clay were each arrested and booked into the Athens-Clarke jail for possession of a weapon in a school zone and criminal damage to property. Both were still in custody as of 7:00 am, which makes sense given that the weapons charge is a nonbondable offense.
The facts of the incident are still coming out, but early reports had the two shooting solo cups with a BB gun in their dorm room, and doing damage to the walls and door in the process. UGA dorms are, of course, a school zone. A BB gun is, technically speaking, a weapon. And if that's the extent of the incident, I am thoroughly underwhelmed. Shooting cups with a BB gun may be dangerous conduct to UGA police and Ralphie's mom, but to me it just sounds like the sort of dumb, destructive thing 18 year old boys do to pass the time.
Clay and Rochester each joined the team in January, and Rochester has already seen action with the first string defensive tackles in practice, and Clay is a likely contributor on special teams and perhaps at corner. I don't really expect either to miss significant time with this case of sprained cerebrum. Unless there's more to this story than what's come out so far, my reaction going forward will be repeated, aggressive use of this emoji: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
