Georgia to host Belmont in NIT first round Wednesday night

Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

Mark Fox and his Hoop Hounds didn't hear their name called during the NCAA tournament selection process, but they did make it into the NIT field. The 'Dawgs earned a #3 seed and will host Ohio Valley Conference regular season champ Belmont (seeded 6th) on Wednesday night in Athens. The Bruins lost a 97-96 overtime heart breaker to Austin Peay in their conference tournament, but are one of those regular season champs guaranteed a slot in the NIT.

Belmont finished 20-11 on the season, with an early win over Marquette and a fairly close loss to Arizona State. The Bruins have also made NCAA tournament appearances in 2013 and 2015, and have veteran players on the roster from those teams. All of which points to a good first round test, with the winner getting the victor of the matchup between #2 St. Mary's and #7 New Mexico State. We'll be back tomorrow with more analysis of the Dawgs' postseason task. Until later...

Go 'Dawgs!!!
