Kirby Smart notched his third recruiting victory over his mentor Nick Saban this morning when McEachern receiver/tailback Tyler Simmons flipped his commitment from Alabama to Georgia. Simmons committed to the Tide only a couple of weeks ago after a senior season that saw pursuit of the three star recruit go through the roof. In addition to the Tide and ‘Dawgs the 5’11, 184 pound standout had earned offers from Auburn, Texas A&M, Miami, and North Carolina. You can see why in these senior highlights.
Simmons is a fast, physical receiver. But his role at Georgia may be more like that of Tide star Kenyan Drake, a guy who can play in the backfield, the slot, or potentially outside. Again fitting with that theme of versatility we’ve discussed with Bulldog defensive recruits, Jim Chaney should be able to slot Simmons in wherever he needs to. Also of note, with this commit Georgia has risen to #4 in 247Sports class rankings, with several of the Red and Black’s biggest targets still on the board, and in the case of #1 WR Demetris Robertson potentially not signing until next week. Welcome aboard Tyler, and . . .
