The Red and Black kept their recent recruiting momentum rolling Thursday with a commitment from Lowndes receiver Xavier Jenkins, Jr. If there's a knock on the Bulldogs' current receiving corps....it's a lack of production behind Terry Godwin. But if there are two criticisms, the other is a lack of size. The Classic City Canines don't have any scholarship wide receivers on campus over 6'2 (though 6'4 JUCO signee Javon Wims will arrive this summer).
The 6'5, 195 pound Jenkins should help remedy that and become an immediate asset in the red zone. Jenkins has only recently started attracting recruiting attention after a junior season that saw him contribute for perennial power Lowndes. While Jenkins' only other offer at this point is from Louisville, I expect that might pick up if he continues to make the rounds of the camp circuit this summer. Currently ranked by 247 Sports as the #54 player in the Peach State, Jenkins will likely be among the three to five highest rated instate receivers in a deep class based in part on pure athleticism and physical potential. In addition to his height, Jenkins flashes good speed and should help stretch the field. He's rail thin at this point, and could easily end up in the 6'5, 215 pound range within two years.
You can see some of the potential that has Bulldog coaches so excited in Jenkins' junior highlights below.
