Mark Fox’s Hoop Hounds will tip it off at 2:00 pm this afternoon against Marquette in the friendly confines of Stegeman Coliseum. The game has been announced as a “Black Out”.
The ‘'Dawgs and Golden Eagles each enter this afternoon’s action 5-2 and unranked. Each team would do well to win this one as a resume builder for March. This is one of those games that fall in the netherworld where you can pick up a decent win, but it’s hard to call even a close one to either of these teams a “quality loss.”
Georgia has been hard to handle in the Stege this season, running their home record to 4-0 with that midweek win over Morehouse. Marquette however has some momentum, and comes into this one winners of their last three, albeit against a murderer’s row of IUPUI, Houston Baptist, and Western Carolina. Much like the Red and Black, the Golden Eagles have beaten teams they should beat and lost their contests against true Power 5 competition (in Marquette’s case losses to Michigan and Pitt).
J.J. Frazier enters the game 34th on the UGA all-time scoring list and only eight points away from #33, Joe Ward. Yante Maten comes in looking to notch his 24th consecutive double digit point effort.
The game will be carried live on ESPNU and streaming on WatchESPN. And as usual you can always listen across the state on the Georgia Bulldog Radio Network. Let’s play some basketball.
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
