‘Tis the season for bowl projections, and USA Today’s latest has the Red and Black squaring off against a Big XII opponent: TCU.
The Horned Frogs are 6-5 under coach Gary Patterson, and will finish their season Saturday against Kansas State. TCU has put up points in 2016, but has given up an uncharacteristic 419.5 yards per game.
Other noteworthy SEC bowl projections include Auburn in the Sugar Bowl because there is no justice in the world and the SEC is either a tragic drama or the worst comedy ever written. USA Today also pegs Tennessee to play in the Music City Bowl against Minnesota, a destination and opponent which Georgia also stands a reasonable chance of landing. These projections also have Kentucky facing North Carolina in a Belk Bowl that Wildcat fans would likely be rightfully pleased with and Vandy in the Independence Bowl against N.C. State.
Personally, I have no problem with a return trip to Memphis, especially since this year it would seem more like a chance to build for next season than a disappointment that half the team might sleepwalk through. I’d also be okay with back-to-back trips to the SEC Championship Game in the following two seasons.
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
