Georgia looked a tad out of sorts early but put it all together in the end to win their home opener over UNC-Asheville, 60-46.
Senior J.J. Frazier got the night off to a momentous start by nailing a 3 pointer to become the 47th Bulldog to score 1000 career points. He ended the night with 18, and the aBulldogs needed every one of them.
Frazier’s performance helped Coach Mark Fox notch his 250th career coaching win. Yante Maten led all UGA scorers with 19 points. But he was but one of a legion of aBulldogs who played in a contest in which Fox appeared set on trying out every combo he could get on the floor.
The results were a little disjointed, at one point allowing the visitors to tie the game at 22. But an 11-4 run keyed by 8 points from Frazier staked the Red and Black to a 33-26 halftime lead which carried them through. Georgia was helped by a poor shooting night by the visiting Bulldogs, who hit only 33.9% from the field.
The ‘Dawgs next take the court at home Thursday night against Southern Conference foe Furman.
