Clemson used an early run and some solid second half offense to avenge last season’s loss to Georgia Friday night in Clemson, 74-64.
The Bulldog offense appeared out of sorts in the first half, and the ‘Dawgs allowed a Clemson run which ended with the Tigers taking a 40-30 lead into the halftime locker room. While the Hoop Hounds briefly cut the Country Gentlemen’s lead to 3 in the second half, a 9-2 Tiger run eventually put this one away.
Yante Maten had the type of night the Bulldogs needed from him, a solid 19 point, 12 rebound effort. Derek Ogbeide looked smoother and more comfortable, finishing with 9 points and 6 rebounds. Preseason all-conference point guard J.J. Frazier tallied 11 points for Coach Fox, but looked a touch out of sorts running the offense (in no small part thanks to some pretty solid Clemson defense).
This was the third consecutive season opening loss for the Bulldogs. Georgia will return to action Monday night in Stegeman Coliseum against UNC-Asheville.
