Georgia has a bye this weekend, but the world keeps on a’spinning around. Once again, I present a few items of interest and a few more bits of tid.
UGA Police are not pursuing charges against Roquan Smith and Natrez Patrick over the possible use of marijuana inside their McWhorter Hall dorm room, as the reporting officer is declining to make any charges despite the fact that there was drug paraphernalia in the room. Both players were at practice on Tuesday and the coaching staff is aware of the Saturday night search of the room where the smell of “burning marijuana” was reported by a resident assistant. Regardless of the decision to not press charges because of lack of evidence, how this is handled by Kirby Smart and any punishment - if any - will be interesting to say the least. I would imagine an “internal discipline” will not be pleasant. Stay tuned...
Kirby Smart already has his fair share of critics among Georgia fans and national writers. Chip Towers feels that the slow start to the season is no reason for long-term pessimism.
I fully expect a tussle in Jacksonville that could come down to a late score and the effort exhibited in a loss to Tennessee instead of the one we saw in the loss to Vandy. The thing about young teams is unpredictability. Who knows how the second half of this season plays out.
As of today, it looks like Lamont Gaillard will be fine to resume practice for the upcoming game in Jacksonville. Cornerback Deandre Baker’s status is still unknown at this point. Perhaps this is the reason why some shifting around of guys at different positions is happening, specifically the experiment with Shakenneth Williams from receiver to DB. The bye week is definitely the time to tinker...
Count Paul Finebaum in as a Kirby Smart believer. For what it’s worth.
Just curious...what are your bye-week plans? I’m probably going to step away from football a bit on Saturday. Might actually do some yard work or even catch a matinee, although I’m sure I’ll catch a few of the evening games (and will be interested to see if Ole Miss becomes the best 3-4 team in the land...) Or, I might dust off the weight equipment and...and...and...
...Nevermind.
