First Half Open Thread: Drawing A Line In The Sand

NCAA Football: Nicholls State at Georgia Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Since SEC divisional play began a quarter of a century ago the triumvirate of Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee have combined to go 2-0 against the others in 18 seasons. 12 of those were the Gators beating both the Vols and Dawgs in the same year. 3 were the Dawgs beating the Vols and Gators, 3 more the Vols beating UGA and UF.

On 14 of those 18 occasions, the team that beat the others won the SEC East. So, with Tennessee having come from behind to beat Florida last week, it might be premature to say the Vols can lock up the East in week 5 of the season. But the numbers indicate that they would have a solid inside track.

No one believes Georgia can win this one, apparently. I don't suspect that Kirby Smart has shown his team any of the predictions for today. I expect that he is much more focused on his football team and what they can do to play better. But you can rest assured that the players on this Georgia Bulldog team know that they need to earn back a measure of respect. There would be no better way to do that then by showing Tennessee that they will not go quietly in the race for the SEC East.

Let’s get ready to kick it off Between the Hedges. Go ‘'Dawgs!!!
