Georgia looks to start hot in conference play against Florida

Mike Zarrilli-USA TODAY Sports

Georgia opens conference play this evening in Gainesville against the Florida Gators. Mark Fox's team enters the night at 7-3, while the home standing Gators come in at 8-4 in head coach Mike White's first season. Georgia has moved to #48 in the most recent RPI rankings, a solid number helped by recent wins over the likes of Georgia Tech and Clemson, and solid starts by the teams the Bulldogs fell to early. The Hoop Hounds' improved fortunes have coincided with the rise of sophomore forward Yante Maten, now leading the squad with 16.3 points per game.

Maten will be tested by a solid Gator front court that includes 6'11 sophomore John Egbunu and 6'8 senior Dorian Finney-Smith (who leads the Gators with 13.7 ppg). This is the kind of game you have to win a solid share of if you want to go dancing in March. Let's see if the 'Dawgs can get off to a solid start against one of their most hated rivals.

Go 'Dawgs!!!
