Georgia faces perhaps it's the toughest test of the season this afternoon when the top 20 ranked Texas A&M Aggies come to visit Stegeman Coliseum at 2:00 p.m on ESPNU. Georgia is coming off a hard-fought victory over the Tennessee Volunteers, while Texas A&M remains undefeated in conference play at 4-0 following a 71-68 victory over Florida.
While mutual opponents are not particularly telling in college basketball, especially in the early going, it is worth noting that the Volunteer squad Georgia just beat fell in a hard-fought game to the Aggies last week. The Aggies' wins have not come easy, but the Texans have done a great job of playing the whole game, and making runs when given the opportunity. In that Tennessee game, for example, the Vols led by ten with four minutes left before the Aggies ripped off a 15-1 run to close the game. That's the kind of thing that worries me going into this one, as Georgia's more often been the team holding off those kind of sprees than making them this season.
A loss in this one wouldn't be ideal. But a win would be a real resume topper. More than anything I view this game as a chance for the young bigs to get work against a really talented Aggie front court, and for Coach Fox to see how his team reacts to a really athletic conference opponent. Let's hoop it up, 'Dawgs!
