Saturday Morning 'Dawg Bites

Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

It's beginning to feel a lot like football, as we're inside of a week to the beginning of practice. This morning we've got a sampling of SEC, recruiting, and luxury tailgating news.

Spurrier pitches longevity to elite quarterback
So let me get this straight . . . Steve Spurrier told a prospect that he'd coach for six more years if the young man would attend South Carolina? Sure. Why not? The truth of the matter is that Spurrier shoved his own foot in his mouth regarding his retirement and has spent the past several months trying to unring that particular bell. Personally I don't see how anyone who's ever watched Spurrier shuffle painfully off the field on his bad knees could expect him to be patrolling the sidelines in five years.

Elite defensive tackle Derrick Brown is still taking visits and has been talking about making a Signing Day decision after taking all five visits. While his recent visit to Auburn probably doesn't make UGA fans feel that great, I still think the Bulldogs are in the driver's seat for the 6'4, 320 pound standout.

#HotMascotTakes. I for one am pleased that young Que appears to be pleasingly plump, but not overly porky. Everyone has opinions about Georgia's line of mascots, but I for one much prefer a healthy looking specimen to a paunchy canine bound for joint and cardiac problems.

We'll be back later with some recruiting news and the first in our series of opponent previews for the 2015 season. Until then . . .
