Dawgs247 is reporting that redshirt freshman quarterback Jacob Park will transfer. Park, formerly a four star prospect out of Goose Creek, South Carolina, had been in the thick of the quarterback sweepstakes going into he spring. However, it appeared coming out of spring that he had fallen behind veterans Brice Ramsey and Faton Bauta. The recent addition of Virginia transfer Greyson Lambert didn't help his chances going forward. If Park moves to the JUCO ranks in 2015 he would have three years to play three seasons upon returning to the FBS ranks in 2016.
Park's exit once again leaves Georgia with only three scholarship quarterbacks, one fewer than Mark Rivht would prefer. But the simple truth is that it's really difficult to keep quality QBs on campus if they don't believe that they'll ultimately get the chance to be "the guy" down the road. What's more, the competition in Athens was only going to get tougher next year when super-recruit Jacob Eason arrives. And, while this may be a little ugly to contemplate, if you're playing your fourth string QB there's a good chance you were already in crisis mode. Bottom line, Park's transfer was fairly predictable and not terribly damaging in the long term. We wish him nothing but the best wherever he ends up. Until later...
