2015 NCAA Tennis Tourney -- Brackets Released

Thank you, sir. May I have another? - Getty Images/Getty Images

The NCAA released the men's and women's tennis tourney brackets this afternoon.

Thoughts:

1. As is the custom, MTEN and WTEN Dawgs will commence play in the Athens regional – to be held at the DMTC from Friday May 8 to Sunday May 10. First round opponents will be Winthrop and Charleston Southern, respectively. If we advance, second round opponents would be the FSU-Troy winner and the Duke-Purdue winner, respectively. UGA Sports Info will release more info on the regional (schedule, etc.), and I will add that link in the comments soon.

2. If our Dawgs were to advance through those rounds, they would head for Waco (not remain in Athens, unfortunately) – where 32 regional winners (16 men's and 16 women's teams) will converge on Thursday May 14 for the remainder of the tourney. Stacey and I considered the trek out there but ultimately decided against it for a number of reasons. Tourney will be back in Athens in '17.

3. MTEN Dawgs are the #8 overall seed. Assuming the seeds were to hold, we would face #9 Texas in the round of 16. A very winnable match, but if we were to prevail there, we would likely get #1 Oklahoma (who is – based on play to this point – far and away the best team in the country) in the quarters. Tough row to hoe – but I am getting way ahead of myself.

4. WTEN Dawgs are the # 6 overall seed. Stacey and I did not get to see much of the women this year, but we look forward to catching them in action in the regional. If seeds were to hold, they would face Michigan in the round of 16 and an always-tough Cal team in the quarters.

Hope to offer up a couple of more posts as the tourney progresses.

Go Dawgs!
