The regular season comes to an end for the Georgia Bulldogs today as they travel to Auburn looking to avenge an earlier loss to the Tigers. Georgia enters the Saturday's game with a 19-10 and a 10-7 conference mark. They appear to be in good shape for a birth in the NCAA Tournament but would be in even better shape if not for an earlier loss to Auburn.
The Bulldogs saw a late lead evaporate in the final moments of a 69-68 loss back on Valentines Day. Tigers guard K.T. Harrell led the comeback effort with 21 points. Since that win, Auburn has lost five straight.
Georgia saw its three-game winning streak come to an end on Tuesday with a 72-64 loss to undefeated Kentucky. The Bulldogs gave the Wildcats all they wanted before some late missed free throws proved costly to the upset bid.
Georgia has battled the injury bug throughout the season and suffered another blow on Thursday when Kenny Gaines injured his foot in practice. The injury doesn't appear to be as serious as was originally feared but Gaines is listed as day-to-day and his availability for Saturday's game is in doubt although he did travel with the team.
The Bulldogs can still obtain a double bye in next week's SEC Tournament but are going to need some help to make it happen. Georgia enters Saturday in sixth place in the standings and tied with LSU who holds the head-to-head tiebreaker. Both teams are a game behind Ole Miss who is currently fourth. The Bulldogs swept the Rebels in the regular season and would own the tiebreaker against them.
The Rebels close out the regular season at home on Saturday against Vanderbilt. LSU must travel to Arkansas for its regular season finale. Georgia needs a win over Auburn and losses by both Ole Miss and LSU to secure the No. 4 seed and a double-bye in next week's tournament.
