Tri-Cities safety Kirby Choates hasn't been bashful about the fact that if he got an offer from Mark Richt and the Georgia Bulldogs he would accept it without hesitation. Today he got that chance, as last minute defections cleared space for the 6'0, 191 pounder to come to Athens.
Choates is not the biggest name on the recruiting trail, counting offers from the likes of Georgia Southern, Ball State, Coastal Carolina, Western Carolina, and Texas Southern. 247Sports ranks him, and I'm not exaggerating here, the 837th best player in the country.
Here's a sampling of what Georgia is getting in Choates:
I've watched this film several times, over and over again, trying to figure out what I think of Choates. And this is what I think: the kid is a football player. He just keeps finding a way to be around the football, making plays, whether on offense, defense, or special teams. I sense that Choates is a guy who'll come in with a chip on his shoulder and looking for a way to make a name for himself. That's not a bad thing. If anything, he kind of reminds me of 2014 signee Dominick Sanders. Not the biggest or fastest guy on the field. But he hits hard, keeps his head in the game, and gets the job done. Here's hoping he makes the most of his opportunity. Until later . . .
