Eight hours after losing their only running back commit for the class of 2015 the Bulldog coaching staff replaced that commitment with an intriguing prospect. Monday evening Georgia both offered and received a commitment from Harris County tailback Tae Crowder. You can see Crowder's impressive highlights here:
He is listed at 6'2, 220 pounds, which frankly is about the size of this other guy who recently played tailback for the Bulldogs. Crowder, like Todd Gurley, is a big, upright running back who isn't afraid to run over (or as you see at the 2:20 mark, stiff arm) people. He doesn't necessarily have elite speed, but then Georgia has had some luck with big, slow backs in the past, right? He has good instincts and vision, though his cutback ability and overall agility isn't great. In truth I could really see Crowder thriving as an H-Back/fullback or as a big, short-yardage back. Given our need to add quality depth in the backfield and a suddenly open scholarship, signing Crowder carries no downside.
Crowder had offers from UAB, Kentucky, Marshall*, and Cincinnati, but was committed to Georgia Southern before deciding to become a Bulldog. He had also received some interest from Auburn and Alabama, but neither school came through with an offer.
* It's worth noting that Marshall's tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator Todd Hartley is now Georgia's Director of Recruiting. I have to believe that Hartley may have had a hand in the Dawgs' pursuit of Crowder.
