Georgia Men Host Murray State. We'd Like A Win, Please.

Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

Georgia looks to put one on the winning side of the ledger tonight when the Bulldogs host the Murray State Racers at Stegeman Coliseum at 7:00 p.m. The ‘Dawgs got the year off to a rocky start last Friday night by dropping a 92-90 overtime decision to the Chattanooga Moccasins. The Racers come to the Classic City with a 2-0 record under first year coach Matt McMahon. Matt McMahon is a totally different guy from Chattanooga coach Matt McCall. I swear.

The visitors move the ball around well and have four starters averaging double digits on the young season. Junior guard DeMarcus Croker and senior forward Wayne Langston are tied for the team lead, averaging 15.5 points per contest. Forward Jeffrey Moss isn’t far behind at 12.5 points per game. Guard Gee McGee averages 13.5 per game and leads the team in awesome alterative names with one.

If nothing else, I’d like to see the Hoop Hounds shoot the ball better and, for the love of all things holy, hit some free throws. It’s a little early to be talking about must-win games. And I don’t think anyone was talking about this Georgia squad as a Sweet Sixteen team during the offseason. But losing these first two is the kind of thing that keeps you out of the tournament field in March, as we know from experience. I’ll be curious to see if J.J. Frazier is able to both score and distribute the way he did against Chattanooga. I also look for Yante to once again have a big game, as I think he matches up relatively well against the Murray State bigs.

We’re gonna hope that’s enough.  I don’t know if I can take starting 0-2 versus mid-major squads with first year head coaches named Matt Mac, folks. Let’s get this one done.

Go ‘Dawgs!!!
