Remembering the Man Who Links Georgia and Georgia Southern

There could not be a better throwback Thursday subject given the Georgia vs. Georgia Southern game is this weekend. Erk Russell remains beloved by both fan bases, and both claim part of his legacy as their own. Russell was defensive coordinator for Georgia's 1980 national championship team, and coached Georgia Southern to three national titles in just six years as a I-AA program. Russell never coached in a UGA-GSU matchup, retiring three years before the first meeting in 1992. Still, his presence is always felt when the two teams met.
