In recent years Georgia hasn't had the world's best record in terms of on-air commitments at the Army All-American Bowl. But the Red and Black got a nice lift when Langston Hughes High defensive end/linebacker D'Andre Walker pledged to Georgia in a live announcement at the game. Walker picked the Dawgs over finalists Auburn and Tennessee, though he also had offers from the likes of Alabama, FSU, Clemson, LSU, Ohio State, and Florida.
247Sports ranks the 6'3, 210 pound Walker the 15th best player in the state of Georgia, but I'd say he's of slightly more importance for this class. The Bulldog linebacking corps right now is dominated by bigger-bodied 3-4 linebackers designed to come up and thump ball carriers in the run game. There's a definite shortage of quicker, sideline to sideline players who can also rush the passer, and even play well in coverage. Walker fits that niche. Pairing him in this class with Macon County's Roquan Smith, a similar player in terms of build and skillset, should help fill that roster gap long term. A solid win for Mark Richt and crew. Until later....
Go 'Dawgs!!!
