Last week we took Clemson to cover against Florida State. Even taking into account the lower line that accompanied the news that Famous Jameis would be suspended for the whole game, we would've gotten the W and improved our record to 4-2 on the season. The 'Noles aren't nearly as good as they were last year. However, they really don't have any other roadblocks along the way to the playoff. Notre Dame or Louisville might knock the 'Noles out of contention, but, at this point, I doubt it.
This isn't a particularly compelling weekend for college football. This might be the time to take your significant other out and enjoy the fall weather. Honestly, I'm not planning on watching anything other than our tussle with Tennessee and, maybe, the SEC Game of Interest. But this is a pick column, so we'll pick No. 11 UCLA (-5.5) at No. 15 Arizona State.
The pick: Arizona State +5.5
Why you should care: Because you like free money. Disclaimer: We whiffed hard on our other free money pick this season. No matter what the pundit tells you, there's not actually any such thing as free money.
Rationale: UCLA is the most overrated team in the country. While Arizona State's rushing defense is a huge liability -- the Sun Devils give up a whopping 4.7 yards per carry -- UCLA is not equipped to exploit it. The Bruins rank 91st nationally in yards per rushing attempt. The ASU offense, on the other hand, has shown itself to be far more adept than UCLA's. In fact, I can't find a single offensive statistic in which UCLA outperforms ASU. This should (finally) be the week that UCLA's weaknesses is exposed.
Go Dawgs!
