The main event of this sports Sunday is obviously the U.S. Men's National Team's group match this evening against Portugal (televised on ESPN at 5:30, with copious coverage in the lead up). I'm a little fuzzy on a lot of things about soccer. But I'm given to understand that if the USMNT wins against the country I affectionately refer to as Spain's chin, they advance in the World Cup, which is not a very U.S. soccer kind of thing to do. If they tie or lose things get much more dicey heading into the final group matchup with Germany, a nation good at soccer, beer, and sausage. Which is a lot better than being good at green wine and cork, Portugeeks.
The UGA Tour's Traveler's Championship is also being played in at the TPC at River Highlands in Connecticut. Harris English is tied for 14th at 8 under, five shots off the pace. He's not out of it, but that's a lot of moving to do on the final day at River Highlands, where it will be unlikely for the leaders to all collapse. So I'm tempering my hopes for another Bulldog win. I guess we have to give other schools a chance to be proud of their golfing' alumni too.
We'll be here all day for these events, as well as Athfest, summer barbecuing, and whatever else comes up. Pull up a chair, we're glad to have you.
Go 'Dawgs!!!
