The biggest news of the week is Mike Bobo taking the Colorado State gig. Coach Bobo has been the topic of much debate and discussion around these parts for a while, but regardless of whether you're pleased or panicked about his departure, it's probably a great move for him professionally. No one that competitive wants to be a coordinator forever. Good luck, Coach.
We've already previewed the bowls of questionable worth and viewability. Now it's time to start examining the meat of the bowl buffet.
Duck Commander Independence Bowl (Dec. 27)
Miami (FL) (-3.5) vs. South Carolina
I don't want to bore you with a long list, but I think it's important to note each of the per-play measures on which South Carolina outperforms Miami: _______. Did you catch all of that? Here's the full list one more time just in case: ________. Yeah, the Hurricanes are going to wreck the Gamecocks, and I'm going to enjoy every minute of it.
New Era Pinstripe Bowl (Dec. 27)
Boston College (-2.5) v. Penn State
It's probably safe to say that no one around these parts really cares for the captains of these two programs -- Steve Addazio was on the staff at Florida during their two most recent national championship seasons, and James Franklin is James Franklin -- so I'm rooting for frostbite to cover the spread. But someone has to win this game, and it's probably going to be Penn State. The Eagles are determined to run the ball. That strategy worked pretty well against the softer teams on their schedule (cough cough USC), but Penn State boasts the best rushing defense in the country. The Nittany Lions will force QB Tyler Murphy to throw, and given that he's averaging a hair over 127 yards PER GAME, BC fans are going to start asking if Does Flutie has any eligibility left.
National University Holiday Bowl (Dec. 27)
Nebraska v. No. 24 USC (-7)
I have no idea what National University is, but I do know that Steve Sarkisian's first win as a head coach came against Nebraska in the Holiday Bowl. I also know that Nebraska's new head coach Mike Riley was the head coach at Oregon State, where he lost four in a row to Sarkisian-coached teams. I'm thinking that number goes to 5 and that Nebraska fans start continue talking about firing Riley.
Go Dawgs!
