Mark Fox's Georgia Bulldogs (5-3, 0-0 SEC) take on the 9-1 Seton Hall Pirates at 6:00 p.m. Athens time in the friendly confines of Stegeman Coliseum.
The Hoop Hounds return to action after a two week layoff, and the break didn't come at a great time in terms of momentum. It would have been nice for the Red and Black to keep right on playing after downing Pac 12 foe Colorado 64-57 on December 7th for their most impressive win of the young season. On the other hand, the break may have come at an opportune time as it appears that junior guard Kenny Gaines may be able to return tonight from a sprained shoulder suffered in the Colorado win.
The Pirates will give the Bulldogs another chance to test themselves against a likely tournament team before commencing conference play. While not ranked in either the AP or USA Today polls, Seton Hall is near the top of the list of those receiving votes in both. Coach Kevin Willard will field a veteran squad, led by Savannah native Brandon Mobley (10.9 ppg, 5.2 rpg) and junior guard Sterling Gibbs (16.6 ppg). It will be interesting to see in Marcus Thornton will continue a banner season that just keeps getting better and better. Thornton is now averaging 13.2 points per game but began December on a tear after going for 20 against UT-Chattanooga and 16 versus Colorado.
The game will be televised live on ESPN and as always is available on radio across the Georgia Bulldog Radio Network.
